Basic Policy toward Protection of User Personal Information

The Institute For International Economic Studies (hereinafter referred to as "IIES") has established its own basic policy toward the protection of users' personal information as explained below under the understanding that it is an important social responsibility of IIES to be compliant with the Personal Information Protection Law in Japan (hereinafter referred to as "PIP Law") and handle any and all information pertaining to user names, addresses, telephone numbers, e-mail addresses, or any other personal data by which such users can be identified (hereinafter referred to as "Personal Information") in an appropriate manner.

1.Obtaining Personal Information

IIES, when obtaining any Personal Information, will do so to the extent necessary and only in a lawful and fair manner.

2.Handling Personal Information

  • 1) Usage within the purpose of use

    IIES will never use any Personal Information obtained pursuant to Clause 1 beyond the purpose of use without obtaining prior consent from the relevant user. Personal Information that IIES has obtained shall be used for the following purposes only: When contacting user to introduce services that IIES provides, or when carrying out any and all actions needed to respond to enquiries / information requests from users.

  • 2)Provision of Personal Information to Third Party

    IIES shall never provide any Personal Information obtained pursuant to the Clause 1 above to any Third Party without obtaining prior consent from the relevant user. Provided, however, that IIES may provide Personal Information to its contractors to the extent only necessary to achieve the purpose of usage thereof. Even in such a case, IIES shall request the relevant contractor to handle the relevant Personal Information in a lawful manner in compliance with PIP Law and IIES shall control properly the use thereof by such contractor.

  • 3)Proper control of Personal Information

    Any user may request IIES to disclose any and all Personal Information that is being kept by IIES and belongs to such user.

4.Compliance with applicable laws, regulations, notifications and guidelines

IIES will attempt to continue improvements in order to observe any applicable laws, regulations and/or any governmental notifications and guidelines so that any and all Personal Information may be handled in a proper manner. Any modification thereof will be reflected in this Basic Policy from time to time.
